I was doing a little cleaning around the house and found a roll of old Kodak Tri-X I had I had forgot to develop. I tried to think back to where and when I shot Tri-X last as most of my recent B+W film work has been with Ilford HP5. I came to discover some scribbles still on the canister and it from what I can deduce, It was a roll of film from almost 10 years ago shot in New York on an old Contax G2.
I went to my local print lab and had the film developed only to discover the images were pretty underexposed due to the fact that the camera I was using had a broken light meter. I can say I got a number of exposures around the mark of "usability". I remember it clearly, I was winging it most of the time and I put out good guesses but this is a glimpse into my early work, it would take a couple more years until I was able to survey a scene and get my exposures spot on in one or two attempts. After reviewing the negatives, I had them digitally transfered so I could try and manipulate them in post.
Due to time, temperature and and other factors I could not prevent the degradation in the image quality. Some of the images stayed a bit true but I added a little contrast as I like to have in my black and white photos (easily noted in the first two photos). The others took on an almost noisy-grain seen in early digital cameras when processed. I may have pushed them a bit much but I digress.
Beyond anything, it was fun to see these images manifest themselves. It brings back som very good memories of when I began to seriously return to photography in 2002.
